Dome-shaped steel helmet with the name of Muhammad Ibn Qalawun. The conical top is crowned with a knob, surrounded by triangular fleurons and by palmettes in gold incrustation. The upper part of the helmet is subdivided into 12 vertical registers by ribs ending in chiselled multi-lobed cartouches, connected at the bottom by festoons (in relief and gilded). The registers are decorated with interwoven strips. The cylindrical base shows a broad band with an inscription (inTulut) on a background of arabesques (in relief and gilded). On either side of this inscription band: triangular fleurons (in relief and gilded). On the nosepiece: a Solomon's seal and an inscription (in Naskh) in gold incrustation. On either side of the nosepiece: two supports for a plume. A coat of mail is attached to the bottom of the helmet. At the height of the ears there is a semi-circular incision with two round holes on either side. The cylindrical base is pierced by other holes.
