This copper vase is one of the most beautiful objects of the tomb of Khasekhemwy (2nd dynasty) in Umm el-Qaab. It was found in 1896-1897 by the French archaeologist Amélineau in Room 25 of the tomb, in a pile of sand and pottery sherds. It was intact, only slightly crushed on one side, possibly as a result of the collapsing of the walls. It was used for funerary offerings, and it was once filled with a greasy substance, wrapped in fabric. Traces are still visible, despite the oxidation.
