This limestone object is a sculptor's model. It was discovered in the excavations of E. Naville in the temple of Mentuhotep at Deir el-Bahari and depicts a snake in the distinct shape of the uraeus. It could possibly be the goddess Meretseger, patron saint of the Theban necropolis. She was worshipped together with the god Ptah in a sanctuary carved into the rock not far from the Valley of the Queens.

Excavation: Naville 1903-1904
