The base of this scarab carries an inscription with the name of Neferhotep I, a pharaoh from the late 13 dynasty. The royal title “sA ra”, ‘son of Ra’ is placed above a cartouche with his name: the sign “nfr” above “Htp” with an added “t” and “p”. Left, hieroglyphs clarify his royal descent: “ms n mwt nsw Kmi”, ‘born from the royal mother Kemi’.
